Student-Athletes Academic Eligibility

Full Time Enrollment Requirement - To be eligible for practice, competition, and financial aid, you must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 quarter hours/3 NU units (1 NU unit = 4 quarter hours) during the fall, winter and spring quarters. If you need fewer than 12 quarter hours to graduate, you may enroll in only these final hours and still be eligible for practice, competition, and financial aid if you receive written permission from the University Registrar and the Athletics Compliance Office. Graduate students who have eligibility remaining must be enrolled in 12 quarter hours to be considered full-time at Northwestern.

Progress Toward Degree Requirements - While enrolled as a student-athlete at Northwestern University, in order to maintain your eligibility, you must:

1. Complete 36 quarter hours prior to your second year of enrollment;
2. Earn six academic hours in the previous regular academic term of full-time enrollment;
3. Earn 27 quarter credits during the academic year (excluding summer);
4. Declare a major no later than the beginning of your seventh quarter or third year of enrollment and, thereafter, complete the required credits in courses applicable to your declared major;
5. Before the beginning of your second year of enrollment you shall maintain a minimum cumulative GPA that is 90% of the minimum GPA required to graduate (at least 1.8);
6. Complete 40% of your degree requirements before the beginning of your third year of enrollment and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA that is 90% of the minimum GPA required to graduate (at least 1.9);
7. Complete 60% of your degree requirements before the beginning of your fourth year of enrollment and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA that is 95% of the minimum GPA required to graduate (at least 2.0) ;
8. Complete 80% of your degree requirements before the beginning of your fifth year of enrollment and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA that is 100% of the minimum GPA required to graduate (2.0).
