#26 Northwestern 7, #45 Boise State, 0 Combe Tennis Center Evanston, Ill. Results |

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wildcats kicked off a busy tennis weekend and improved to 4-4 on the season with a 7-0 sweep of No. 45 Boise State. Northwestern jumped off to an early lead and clinched the doubles point. Playing No. 2 doubles, Alex Pasareanu and Sam Shropshire defeated Boise State's Abe Hewko and Thomas Tenreiro, 6-3, for the `Cats first win of the match. At No. 1 doubles. Fedor Baev and Strong Kirchheimer could not overcome Boise State's Toby Mitchell and Garrett Patton and the doubles point was up for the taking at the No. 3 doubles spot. Mihir Kumar and Alp Horoz pulled away with a 6-4 win in a back-and-forth match against Boise State's Brian Foley and Danny Moyer to snatch the doubles point for Northwestern.
The `Cats soundly defeated the Broncos in singles play, earning a first set win in all six singles matches. At No. 6 singles, Horoz quickly took care of Boise State's Moyer for the Wildcat's first singles win, 6-0, 6-2. Playing No. 1 singles, Shropshire dominated Tenreiro, 6-3, 6-3 for the third point of the match. Kirchheimer clinched the Wildcat victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Garrett Patton. Northwestern played out the match and freshman Logan Staggs put the fifth point on the board, defeating Toby Mitchell, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. At No. 5 singles, Baev followed the lead of his fellow `Cats and won a second set tiebreaker to defeat Hewko, 6-4, 7-6. Kumar accomplished the sweep for Northwestern, with a 7-6, 3-6, 10-5 win over Brian Foley.
Northwestern Men's Tennis returns to action for a double header at Combe Tennis Center Sunday at 11 a.m. when they face the No. 30 Harvard and 6 p.m. against Valparaiso.
