EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following last Sunday's doubleheader at home, No. 26 Northwestern continues its stretch in Evanston as Boise State, Harvard, and Valparaiso come to town this weekend.
The `Cats first welcome No. 45 Boise State on Friday for a 4:30 p.m match. They then take on No. 30 Harvard at 11 a.m. on Sunday, and conclude the day with a 6 p.m. contest against Valparaiso.
Currently 3-4 on the season, the `Cats ascended four spots in the ITA rankings this week. They are now No. 26 in the nation after turning in solid performances against two top-15 opponents last weekend. Strong Kirchheimer continues as No. 108 in singles.
Boise State checks in at No. 45 this week. The Broncos are 2-2 so far and achieved their most recent win over Pepperdine last Sunday. At present, they do not have any ranked players in singles or doubles.
Last year, NU opened its season at Boise State and left with a 5-2 victory.
No. 30 Harvard is 3-1 on the season and returns to action after having last weekend off. At the ITA Kick-Off two weeks ago, the Crimson fell 4-2 against Berkley but recovered with a 4-3 win over NC State. Harvard will face Boise State on Saturday in Evanston before meeting the `Cats.
The Crimson has two players in singles rankings: No. 57 Denis Nguyen and No. 86 Sebastian Beltrame. Nguyen also makes up one half of the No. 7 doubles team with Brian Yeung.
Northwestern clashed with Harvard a year ago in what became a closely-contested nail-biter. The Crimson ultimately claimed the 4-3 win after winning several tight singles matches.
Valparaiso has compiled an undefeated 3-0 record so far and will take on Eastern Illinois on Saturday before coming to Evanston. NU beat Valpo 6-1 last year at home.
