Mike Valentine joined Northwestern Athletics as Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment in May 2016. He is responsible for overseeing the department’s day-to-day equipment operations for 19 varsity sports and works closely with men’s golf, football and Development.
Valentine is a certified athletic equipment manager and is actively involved in a leadership role in the Athletic Equipment Managers Association, currently serving as assistant director of District 5, which includes equipment managers in college athletics in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada.
Prior to Northwestern, Valentine served for three years as director of equipment operations at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, where he oversaw rebranding and uniform design for the football program. His career in college athletics started in September 2006 at Tulane University where he maintained the equipment operations of the baseball and track and field programs. From 2009-2010, he worked as coordinator of Equipment and Facilities at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He became an assistant equipment manager at the University of Arizona for the 2011 and 2012 seasons and handled the day-to-day equipment responsibilities of the Arizona Wildcat football program.
The Greenwood, Indiana native attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., where he earned a degree in history in 2004. He played varsity football for the DePauw Tiger for two years and stayed on as a student assistant coach and manager for the last two years of his collegiate career as a Tiger.
He resides in Skokie, Ill.
