Marcus Attles joined Northwestern University as Associate Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations in April 2018. At NU, he oversees the Facilities work unit and is responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of all athletic and recreation facilities. Attles also assists with capital projects and serves as a project manager, including the $270 million Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center as well as the $110 million renovation of Welsh-Ryan Arena and McGaw Memorial Hall. In 2018, he was nominated for the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association’s ‘Facility Manager of the Year’ award.
Attles came to Evanston after a four-year stint as Assistant AD for Facilities & Event Management at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. During his time with the Seahawks, Attles provided leadership, management, and direction for all athletic facilities at UNCW. As a department head, he supervised his unit’s full-time staff, created a 20-member student staff, and transformed the Grounds & Sports Turf division. Other responsibilities included capital projects, venue management and security, and facility branding. Prior to his time in Wilmington, Attles spent two years at Radford University as Assistant AD for Facilities & Operations where he oversaw all facilities and game management for each of RU’s 19 NCAA Division I programs. In addition, he was charged with management of the Facilities & Operations budget, purchasing, master planning, and equipment operations. He also managed multiple capital projects while at Radford. In August of 2012, Attles joined RU’s senior staff, was named sport supervisor for volleyball and field hockey, and was a member of the 10-year strategic planning committee.
Attles has also spent time with the University of Central Florida as Assistant Director of Event Operations. At UCF, he served as the game administrator for women’s basketball and track and field, in addition to game management duties for all other UCF athletic contests. He previously worked as the Facilities, Operations & Events Coordinator at the University of Maryland for one year prior to accepting the position at UCF. Attles also landed several internships, including periods with Towson University, Ohio State University, and his alma mater, Hampton University. Attles has created and directed several events, including the inaugural intercollegiate athletics forum at Ohio State, and later at UCF. The forums were intended to bridge the gap between entry-level employees and upper administration. Attles has served as Vice-Chair of the Programming Committee with the Collegiate Athletics Operations Services (CAOS). In May of 2014, he was named to the Board of Directors for Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA), a professional association part of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Attles received his bachelor of science degree in Sport Management from Hampton University. He resides in Chicago with his wife, Tabitha.
