Katie Brown was promoted to the Director of Athletics Events and Hospitality in 2019, reflective of her comprehensive leadership on all athletics campaign and special events along with elevating the premium experiences at Welsh-Ryan Arena and Ryan Field. She began her Northwestern career in August of 2014 as the Manager, Special Events – Athletics. Her role included planning campaign celebrations, annual stewardship events and fundraisers, along with the game-day premium hospitality at Ryan Field.
Brown works closely with Northwestern’s food and beverage partners to deliver world-class hospitality to student-athletes in Nona Jo’s Dining Center and fans in Welsh-Ryan Arena, Ryan Field, and Rocky and Berenice Miller Park. In her role, Brown partners with internal and external groups to build collaborative NU Athletics events, including the Alumni Relations and Development (ARD) Donor Relations and Special Events teams, Athletics Marketing and Communications, NAA, N Club, NGN and the Chicago Cubs.
Brown came to Northwestern after 10 years at Levy Restaurants, where she learned the intricacies of the food and beverage industry, including opening restaurants, extensive marketing strategies, and customer service and logistics for some of the largest sports venues in the world. Through her various roles with Levy, she propelled global marketing initiatives, oversaw media training, managed PR and branding for over 12 restaurants, built an online ordering solution, and launched an email software system. She also had game day roles at both the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals in their premium areas and planned over a dozen weddings.
Brown earned a degree in sports management and a minor in coaching from Miami University in 2003. During her time at Miami, she uncovered her love of managing athletics events as a game operations intern in the athletics department.
Brown and her husband, Matt, live in Wilmette with their twins, Wesley and Brennan.
