Jackie Jargal (nee Altansarnai) joined Northwestern Athletics in February 2023 as women’s tennis volunteer assistant coach.
Born in Mongolia and moved to the United States at age 11 to pursue tennis, Jargal grew up playing tennis at Hinsdale Racquet Club coached by the legendary Coach Jack Sharpe. She was a 5-star player recruit from Hinsdale Central High School in Illinois and was ranked #44 in the nation on tennisrecruiting.net. Jargal accepted a full scholarship offer to play Division 1 tennis at Stony Brook University in New York where she contributed immediately to the success of the Seawolves. She was named America East Rookie of the Year, helped the Seawolves win the America East Conference title and advanced further to compete at the NCAA championships. Jargal spent the last two years of her college career at the University of Illinois in Chicago where she finished senior year at the #1 singles spot with the highest singles winning record in the conference. At UIC, Jargal was named Horizon League All-League First Team honoree in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Jargal graduated from UIC with a bachelor’s degree in economics and went on to work at Bank of America as senior analyst for three years. She continued to play tennis and coached at East Bank Club, Midtown, and various country clubs, high schools, and other tennis programs around the Chicagoland area as a Tennis Professional. She is a certified PTR Professional level coach since 2016.
