EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern fell in its series opener to Indiana, 9-2, at Wrigley Field on Friday night.
Indiana (21-25, 7-15 Big Ten) struck first in the top of the first inning, taking the lead off a sacrifice fly. The Hoosiers added four runs, three earned, in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead.
Noah Ruiz got the 'Cats (17-25-1, 5-17 Big Ten) on the board in the bottom of the seventh, plating two with an RBI single, with the second run scoring from an error in left field.
The Hoosiers would respond with four runs of their own in the top of the eighth to cap off the scoring.
LHP Ryan Weaver (1-6) allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits, striking out six and issuing two walks.
The weekend series will continue on Saturday afternoon at Miller Park. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.
