COLLEGE PARK, Md. — No. 4 Northwestern lacrosse defeated its second No. 1-ranked opponent in the past three weeks, knocking off Maryland, 11-10, on Thursday night in SECU Stadium.
The Wildcats (10-3, 4-1 Big Ten) are the first Division I team to beat multiple IWLCA No. 1-ranked squads since Florida in 2012. They have now won their past six meetings with the Terrapins (13-1, 5-1 Big Ten).
Senior attacker Madison Taylor led all scorers with five points (four goals, one assist). Taylor corralled a team-high five draw controls, including a pivotal 50-50 in the game's final minute. She is now 56 points away from tying Izzy Scane's program career points record (483).
For the second consecutive game, sophomore attacker Aditi Foster recorded a hat trick. Foster has now scored 30 goals and dished out 11 assists in 2026.
First-year midfielder Kate Ratanaproeksa, junior attacker Taylor Lapointe, redshirt junior attacker Abby LoCascio and junior midfielder Noel Cumberland added goals.
Graduate student goalkeeper Jenika Cuocco posted nine saves on a 47.4% save percentage, racking up five stops in the first quarter to help keep the game within reach. Cuocco tallied four ground balls in the win.
The 'Cats forced the hosts into 16 turnovers, their second-highest in conference play. Redshirt junior defender Jaylen Rosga tallied a game-high three caused turnovers and scooped a pair of ground balls. Rosga has nabbed six caused turnovers in the past two games.
Northwestern outscored Maryland 8-5 in the second half, erasing a 5-3 halftime deficit. The 'Cats completed comebacks in both their wins over the nation's No. 1-ranked squads.
The Terrapins began the game with the upper hand, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. But NU continued to chip away at the margin, tying the score at 5-5 midway through the third quarter.
After Lapointe gave the Wildcats a 9-8 lead with less than 11 minutes remaining, Northwestern never relinquished its advantage.
The Wildcats will continue their East Coast road swing with a matchup against No. 18 Penn State on Sunday, April 12. Opening draw from University Park, Pa., is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT on B1G+.
