Northwestern Falls in Series Finale at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – Northwestern dropped its series finale at Minnesota, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at Siebert Field.

C Jay Slater and INF Nick Barron both recorded multiple hits for the Wildcats (16-24-1, 5-16 Big Ten), with Slater going 2-for-3 with two doubles and Barron going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. 

Sunday's contest began as a pitchers duel, with each starter working five straight scoreless innings to open the game.

Minnesota (26-17, 8-13 Big Ten) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run by C Weber Neels and cushioned its lead with five runs in the seventh.

Northwestern got on the board with a pair in the eighth. INF Jake Yang plated Barron with an RBI groundout, and INF Owen McElfatrick doubled home OF Griffin Mills

RHP Matt Kouser (1-5) recorded his second quality start over his last three appearances, surrendering two runs on five hits in 6.0 innings pitched, issuing two walks and striking out a pair.

Northwestern returns to Miller Park for a midweek matchup against Milwaukee on Tuesday, April 28, at 3:30 p.m. CT.
