NU Comes Up Short in Game Two at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – C Jay Slater slugged a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the eighth, but NU was unable to hold on in a 7-3 setback at Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.

Minnesota (25-17, 7-13 Big Ten) inched ahead with one run in the third and sixth innings to take a 2-0 lead. 

With two runners on and the 'Cats trailing by two in the top of the eighth, Slater came through with his sixth homer of the season to put NU (16-23-1, 5-15 Big Ten) ahead by one.

The Golden Gophers responded with five runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the game and secure the series.

LHP Ryan Weaver (1-5) surrendered four runs on five hits and one walk, striking out four in 7.0+ innings of work.

Sunday's series finale is slated for 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.
