Northwestern's Bats Stymied in Series Finale at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan completed the weekend sweep of Northwestern, topping the Wildcats 2-1 in a pitchers duel on Sunday at Ray Fisher Stadium.

LHP Ryan Weaver (1-2) delivered a strong start, limiting the Wolverines to two runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched, striking out three. RHP Drew Dickson tossed 2.2 shutout innings in relief, allowing two hits and one walk while punching out a pair.

After three scoreless innings from both starting pitchers, Michigan (24-15, 10-8 Big Ten) went ahead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs on four hits to take the lead.

Northwestern (14-21-1, 5-13 Big Ten) responded immediately in the top of the fifth, pulling a run back when INF Owen McElfatrick scored on a passed ball to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Wildcats were unable to find the tying run as Michigan RHP David Lally Jr. closed out a one-hit complete game to secure the series sweep for the Wolverines.

Northwestern returns to Miller Park for a pair of midweek matchups at home this week against Bradley and St. Thomas, before heading to Minnesota for a three-game set against the Gophers next weekend.
