EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern dropped a tight 3-2 contest to Purdue on Saturday afternoon at Miller Park.
RHP Matt Kouser delivered a quality start, allowing one run on four hits and four walks, striking out five in 6.0 innings pitched.
Purdue (24-10, 11-6 Big Ten) got on the board first in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single.
Northwestern (13-17-1, 5-9 Big Ten) evened the game at one in the bottom of the fourth, with OF Jack Lausch scoring an unearned run on a Boilermaker error.
INF Ryan Kucherak gave Northwestern the lead in the bottom of the sixth, crushing a solo homer off the batter's eye to put NU ahead, 2-1.
LHP Ryan Weaver allowed one unearned run in 3.0 innings of relief, walking two and striking out one.
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT at Miller Park on B1G+.
