‘Cats Host DePaul in Sunday Dual

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern women's tennis plays its final match before Big Ten competition begins when it hosts DePaul on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. CT inside Combe Tennis Center.

Last time out, the Wildcats (6-4) swept Fordham, 7-0. Junior Autumn Rabjohns played her first career match at the No. 1 singles position and won 6-2, 6-1. Junior Neena Feldman, at No. 2 singles, tabbed her most dominant victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph, and first-year Marelie Raath clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 result at the No. 5 slot.

First-year Margot Phanthala, who has played all of her matches at the No. 1 singles position this season, missed the match due to a minor injury. Phanthala is the ITA's No. 43 singles player in the country, placing her as the fourth-highest ranked first-year nationally and eighth-highest ranked player in the Big Ten. Phanthala is tied for the most singles wins on the team with six (6-3).

Feldman and sophomore Mika Dagan Fructhman maintain a spot in the ITA's doubles rankings, slotting in as the No. 70 team in the nation.

Rabjohns and Raath are tied with Phanthala for the most singles wins on the team, as they both have 6-2 records in singles play this season. Rabjohns' only two losses are to ranked players. Raath, meanwhile, leads the team in total wins with 12, as she boasts a team-high six doubles victories (6-3).

Northwestern and the Blue Demons (5-4, 2-0 Big East) will face off for the 10th time, with the 'Cats having won all nine previous meetings. When the teams faced off last season, Northwestern notched a 4-0 victory. 

DePaul is coming off a narrow 4-3 home loss to Eastern Michigan. The Blue Demons are headlined by Sasha Stula, who is 7-1 at the No. 1 singles position this year. She has been named Big East Singles Player of the Week twice this season. DePaul's No. 1 doubles pairing of Clara Nilsson and Hannah Smith is 6-3 on the season.

The Wildcats have a weekend off before they kick off Big Ten play on the road, facing Iowa on Friday, March 6, at 5 p.m. CT, and Nebraska on Sunday, March 8, at noon CT.
