Five ‘Cats Named NFHCA All-Americans

EVANSTON, Ill. - For the third-straight season, the Northwestern field hockey team has garnered five All-American selections. Tying Harvard for the most honorees in the nation, five Wildcats earned the national accolade, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Tuesday. Five honorees also tie a record for most All-American nods in program history.

Ashley Sessa, Ilse Tromp, and Maddie Zimmer were each named First Team All-Americans, all returning to the honor roll. Three First Team All-Americans are the most by any program in the nation this year.

Sessa, a junior forward, became the 12th Wildcat to claim multiple first-team nods and led the team in goals, assists, and points. Scoring 65 points in the season, the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year is climbing the NU career-scoring leaderboard. Now owning the top two highest-scoring seasons (2024: 67, 2025: 65), Sessa stands in fourth place in program history, with 132 points scored as a Wildcat. She also led the Big Ten in points per game (2.95).

Tromp, a junior back, earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and now returns to All-American recognition. After being named a second-team selection in her sophomore season, Tromp had the second-most goals and third-most points for Northwestern this year. Reaching 35 points this season, she accomplished the most points scored by a back in team history since at least 2014, and claimed first-team honors.

Zimmer, a graduate midfielder, becomes the first NU player to receive four First Team All-American selections in her career. This marks her fifth All-American selection at Northwestern. The Big Ten Player of the Year and NFHCA West-Region Player of the Year, Zimmer tallied 17 assists and five goals in her final collegiate season. She was also named the 2025 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, her third time earning the honor.

In her first collegiate season, redshirt first-year NU goalkeeper Juliana Boon was named a Second Team All-American. Boon joins a long list of First-Year All-Americans at Northwestern, and she is the first first-year Wildcat to receive the honor since Bent-Cole was named an All-American in 2023. The Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year is the 17th Northwestern player to receive Second-Team All-American honors. Her 0.78 goals-against average was the best in the Big Ten, and she was also No. 8 in the country in save percentage (0.775).

Junior Olivia Bent-Cole rounds out NU's list of All-Americans with a third-team selection, becoming the 10th Third Team All-American in NU field hockey history. A junior forward, Bent-Cole posted 22 points in the 2025 season, with six goals and 10 assists.
