Johnson Tabbed Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

EVANSTON, Ill. (October 14, 2025) – Northwestern University men's soccer first-year Andrew Johnson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) has been named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.  Johnson is the second Wildcat first-year to earn the honor this season, joining Aaron O'Reilly.

Johnson was at the forefront of a pair of determined defensive efforts by the 'Cats last week.  The 5-foot-11 defender put in a pair of 90-minute shifts, as Northwestern defeated Evansville, 1-0, on Tuesday ahead of a scoreless draw on Saturday against Michigan State.  The Purple Aces and Spartans were limited to a combined one shot on goal between the two contests.

Out of Lee's Summit, Mo., Johnson has been a fixture in head coach Russell Payne's lineup this season, starting in 11 of his 12 appearances.  He has played a full 90 minutes on seven occasions and contributed to four shutouts.

Northwestern opens a two-game road swing on Friday, October 17 with a 6 p.m. CT matchup against Penn State at Jeffrey Field in University Park, Pa.
