EVANSTON, Ill. (October 14, 2025) – Northwestern University men's soccer first-year Andrew Johnson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) has been named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Johnson is the second Wildcat first-year to earn the honor this season, joining Aaron O'Reilly.
Johnson was at the forefront of a pair of determined defensive efforts by the 'Cats last week. The 5-foot-11 defender put in a pair of 90-minute shifts, as Northwestern defeated Evansville, 1-0, on Tuesday ahead of a scoreless draw on Saturday against Michigan State. The Purple Aces and Spartans were limited to a combined one shot on goal between the two contests.
Out of Lee's Summit, Mo., Johnson has been a fixture in head coach Russell Payne's lineup this season, starting in 11 of his 12 appearances. He has played a full 90 minutes on seven occasions and contributed to four shutouts.
