Three ‘Cats Named Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch

EVANSTON, Ill. (Sept. 9, 2025) – The Big Ten Conference unveiled their Preseason Players to Watch on Tuesday afternoon, with Ashley Yun, Hsin Tai Lin, and Arianna Lau receiving recognition.

Yun begins her junior campaign after two successful seasons in Evanston to date. The 2023 Big Ten Freshman of the Year led the Wildcats with a stroke average 71.65, taking ten top-25 finishes in twelve events. Yun captured her maiden collegiate win across the pond at the St Andrews Links Collegiate in Scotland, leading wire-to-wire at five-under-par.

Tai Lin made an instant impact in her debut season in Evanston, appearing in all 34 rounds for a stroke average of 73.76. Tai Lin played a pivotal role in Northwestern's national championship run, taking a dominant 3&2 win over Stanford's Meja Örtengen in the championship match to put the first point on the board for the Wildcats.

Lau joins the Wildcats as the 41st ranked amateur in the world, opening the season on the preseason watch list for the ANNIKA Award. The first-year picked up several strong finishes at the amateur level over the summer, placing in fourth at the APGC Junior Championship in Hong Kong, 33rd at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship, and sixth at the Girls Junior PGA Championship, in addition to reaching the quarterfinals as the 64th seed at the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Following the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, the Wildcats are set to compete at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, September 15-17, in Lake Bluff, Illinois.
