Nelson and Miller earned the honors after Northwestern knocked off No. 4 TCU 1-0 in Fort Worth on Thursday night. The win is Northwestern's highest ranked road win in program history and first win over a top-five opponent since a 1-0 win on August 29, 2010 vs. No. 3 UCLA. The 'Cats handed TCU its first home loss since August 20, 2023, when it fell 2-0 to No. 6 Florida State. The Horned Frogs were unbeaten in their last 18 at home (15-0-3) and had won seven straight games at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.

The clean sheet marked Nelson's fourth in just seven collegiate games, third-most by a first-year goalkeeper in school history. Earlier this season, Nelson was named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week on August 19 after recording shutouts in her first two collegiate starts.

Miller collects Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week recognition for the first time in her career. Miller and the Wildcats' back-line limited TCU to just six shots and one shot on goal. TCU's six shots are its fewest since in a game registering six shots on November 18, 2022 vs. Michigan State.

Northwestern's first time winning multiple Big Ten Players of the Week awards in the same week since September 10, 2024, when Emma Phillips and Reiley Fitzpatrick took home Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week after the Wildcats defeated No. 21 Virginia Tech 1-0.
