Northwestern Falls to Ohio State, 11-6

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern fell 11-6 to Ohio State on Saturday afternoon at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

The Buckeyes (12-34, 4-22 Big Ten) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on a pair of first inning home runs by DH Mason Eckelman and 1B Ryan Miller.

Northwestern (22-25, 11-15 Big Ten) got one back in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by 3B Owen McElfatrick, scoring LF Preston Knott.

OSU added another on an RBI single by C Matthew Graveline, stretching its lead back to four runs.

The 'Cats fought back in the bottom of the third, shaving the deficit all the way down to one. RF Jackson Freeman singled to right-center, scoring DH Trent Liolios. SS Ryan Kucherak's double down the left-field line scored Knott for his fifth run scored in the last two games. CF Jack Lausch barreled a ball to center field for a sacrifice fly to score RF Jackson Freeman, cutting the lead to 5-4.

Two more Ohio State home runs in the top of the sixth extended the Buckeye lead to 9-4. OSU added two more on a two-run double to stretch go ahead 11-4.

2B Jacob Hand singled home Kucherak and Freeman in the bottom of the seventh to trim the gap to 11-6 and cap off the scoring.

LHP Christian Forniss (1-4) is credited with the loss, surrendering four runs on three hits and one walk in 0.2 innings of work.
