Yang Named Big Ten Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Vincent Yang has been named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. Yang contributed a singles and a doubles victory on Saturday as Northwestern swept a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky and Marquette at Combe Tennis Center.

In the morning match, Yang took down Northern Kentucky's Arnau Puig Juanpere at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-3. The victory improved Yang to a perfect 3-0 in singles action so far this dual season, during which he has yet to lose a single set to an opponent. Over his last five sets of singles action, the first-year has dropped just four total games.

Later in the day, Yang teamed up with partner Max Bengtsson at No. 3 doubles to contribute to the 'Cats' victory over Marquette. Yang and Bengtsson wrapped up the doubles point with a 6-2 win in their first match as a duo, accounting for Yang's fourth doubles victory this season.

Yang is the first-ever Wildcat to earn Freshman of the Week honors after the conference originated the award this January.

Yang and the 'Cats return to action this Friday evening, when they're set to open Big Ten conference play at home against Wisconsin. Northwestern will host the Badgers at 6 p.m. CT, then complete the weekend on Sunday at noon against Nebraska.
