INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 1, 2025) – Holly Smith and Skye Ellis came away with individual victories to lead the way for Northwestern cross country at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
Smith got the 'Cats off to a fast start on Friday night in the 5,000m run, finishing atop the event leaderboard. The Cheshire, England native, who also took third (4:54.28) in the mile run this weekend, posted an indoor personal-best 16:34.37, a time that sees her ascend to fifth all-time in program history.
Katherine Hessler clocked a new indoor personal best of her own in the 5,000m run, racing through in 16:54.63 to climb to tenth in Wildcat annals en route to a third-place finish. Whitney Currie also saw action in the event, running 18:11.84 (12th).
Northwestern put up an impressive showing in the 3,000m run on Saturday morning, with four Wildcats placing inside the top 10. Ellis led the way for the quartet, placing first overall with a time of 9:36.12. Anna Hightower also battled her way to a spot inside the top five, surging through in 9:56.08 to land fourth.
The pairing of Mallory Grubb (10:06.25) and Kailey Zagst (10:08.19) made their 3,000m run debuts, placing eighth and tenth, respectively.
Northwestern returns to action close to home on Saturday, February 8, making the short trek to Chicago's South Side for the Blue Demon Alumni Classic inside the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center.
