Ava Criniti Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

EVANSTON, Ill. (October 23, 2024) – Coming off a strong showing at the Bradley Pink Classic, Northwestern redshirt first-year Ava Criniti (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) has been named the Big Ten Conference Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Week.  Criniti is the first Wildcat to receive a weekly league honor since Rachel McCardell during the 2021 season.

Running the 6k red race this past Friday at the Newman Golf Course, which will serve as the host of November's NCAA Midwest Regional, Criniti battled through adversity early in the race to ultimately battle her way to an 11th-place finish with a time of 20:37.2.  It marked the Lexington, Mass. native's third top-15 finish of the 2024 campaign.

Aided by Criniti's showing, Northwestern cruised to the event title, outdistancing second-place Loyola Chicago by 79 points for the top spot on the team leaderboard.

Criniti will look to carry momentum into the postseason, which opens for the 'Cats on Friday, November 1 at the Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championships in Champaign, Ill.
