EAST LANSING, Mich. – Reiley Fitzpatrick's career-high eight saves were not enough as No. 21 Michigan State used a 57th minute goal to down Northwestern 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at DeMartin Stadium in East Lansing.

The loss drops Northwestern to 6-9-3 overall and 1-7-2 in Big Ten action.

How it Happened

Michigan State dominated the run of play in the first half, but Fitzpatrick was up to the task, recording five saves on 10 Spartan shots.

Bella Najera netted the game's only goal in the 58th minute, assisted by Meg Hughes and Jordyn Wickes to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. NU responded to create some dangerous chances late, but couldn't find the back of the net in the 1-0 setback.

NU will close out the regular season on Sunday, October 27 at Illinois. Kickoff from Champaign is set for 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.
