Annabel Skubisz Claims Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Award

EVANSTON, Ill. -  Field Hockey graduate student goalkeeper Annabel Skubisz has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, marking the sixth time in her career and her first honor of the 2024 season. Skubisz was a dominant force this past weekend, leading Northwestern to two victories over ranked opponents.

In a standout performance, Skubisz made 8 crucial saves in Northwestern's 2-0 win over No. 5 Duke on Friday in Evanston. She followed that up by holding No. 17 Boston College scoreless, lowering her season goals-against average to an impressive 0.25 and improving her save percentage to .933 (14-for-15). Her efforts were key in securing a shutout weekend and continuing the Wildcats' strong start to the season.

This honor adds to an already decorated career for Skubisz, who was named the 2023 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and the Big Ten Tournament MVP. Last season alone, she earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors four times, solidifying her reputation as one of the top goalkeepers in collegiate field hockey.

Northwestern returns to action Friday, September 13, facing Louisville at 5:00 p.m. CT at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky. The Wildcats will then take on Cornell on Saturday, September 14 at 4:00 p.m. CT. Friday's game against the Cardinals will be streamed live on ACCNx.
