'Cats Shut Out Marquette, 2-0 in Home Opener

EVANSTON, Ill. – Kennedy Roesch tallied early and Josie Aulicino converted on a penalty kick in a 2-0 win over Marquette in Northwestern's home opener at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium on Thursday evening.

The Wildcats (2-1-0) outshot the Golden Eagles (0-2-1) 18-3 in the victory, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. Josie Aulicino's five shots (two on goal) paced all Wildcats. Caterina Regazzoni recorded three shots, all on target in the contest.

How it Happened

Northwestern drew first blood in the 13th minute on Kennedy Roesch's second goal of the season, a strike from the top of the 18-yard box. Nicole Doucette tallied her first assist of the 2024 campaign on the goal.

In the 38th minute, Keira Wagner earned a penalty after being taken down inside the 18-yard box. Josie Aulicino stepped up and sent the MU keeper the wrong way, doubling the Wildcat lead heading into the half.

Northwestern protected its lead in the second half, outshooting the Golden Eagles 6-3 in the final 45 minutes, cruising to a two-nil victory in the first ever game at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.
