Volmar Called Up To U.S. U-20 Men’s Youth National Team

EVANSTON, Ill. (July 17, 2024) – Fritz Volmar (Peoria, Ill./Laurel Springs), a rising sophomore on the Northwestern University men's soccer team, has been called up the United States Under-20 Men's Youth National Team ahead of the upcoming CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

Volmar is coming off an outstanding debut season with the 'Cats in 2023.  The 6-foot-0 defender was a fixture in head coach Russell Payne's lineup, starting in 16 of 17 games while playing a full 90 minutes in nine contests.  Volmar also made his mark in the offensive third, tallying his first collegiate goal as part of a 4-2 win over Ohio State on September 24.

For his efforts, Volmar, a native of Peoria, Ill., was named as a unanimous selection to the Big Ten Conference's All-Freshman Team, becoming the second Wildcat in as many years to collect the honor.  He also received praise from TopDrawerSoccer.com, coming in at No. 7 in the organization's Freshman Top 100 rankings.

Mexico will play host to the 2024 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, July 19 through August 4.  The United States is set to open group play on Friday, July 19 against Jamaica at 9 p.m. in Celaya, Mexico, with matchups against Cuba (July 22) and Costa Rica (July 25) to follow.
