Yun Impresses, Climbs Into Top 10 On Day Two Of NCAA Championships

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 18, 2024) – Ashley Yun turned in a sparkling effort as she ascended into the top 10 on the individual leaderboard for the Northwestern University women's golf team on day two of the 2024 NCAA Women's Golf Championships in Carlsbad, Calif.
 

The 'Cats posted a second-round 293 at the par-72, 6,330-yard Champions Course at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, a total that has Northwestern alongside Arkansas (288-290) as part of a tie for eighth place at 578 (285-293).
 
Texas A&M (281-284=565) is five shots in front of Stanford (285-285=570) atop the team standings, while the Aggies' Adela Cemousek has played the opening 36 holes at eight-under-par (68-68=136) to seize the individual lead.
 
Following the completion of Sunday's third round, the top 15 teams and top nine individuals who are not on a team inside the top 15 will advance on to the final round of stroke play on Monday, where the eight teams who will compete in match play and an individual champion will be decided.
 
After closing Friday at one-under-par, Yun recorded her 17th round at par or better today, firing a two-under 70.  The West Covina, Calif. product bounced back from a bogey on her opening hole of the day by going bogey-free the rest of the way.  Yun picked up three birdies as she climbed into a tie for seventh with a three-under-par 141 (71-70).

Jieni Li will enter Sunday in red numbers as well following an even-par round of 72 that has her tied for 23rd with a one-under 143 (71-72).  Li, out of Hangzhou, China, tallied a trio of birdies of her own today en route to the 39th round at or below par of her collegiate career.
 
Lauryn Nguyen (T-92nd) finished the day with a two-over 74, bringing her total for the week to 151 (77-74).  Jiayi Wang (T-72nd) sits at 149 (72-77) following a second-round 77, while Jennifer Cai (T-101st) carded an 81 that has her at 152 (71-81).
 
Northwestern will be part of the morning wave in Sunday's third round at the NCAA Women's Golf Championships.  The Wildcats will begin play at 9:35 a.m. (CT) on the first hole and will be paired with Oregon and Arkansas.
