EVANSTON, Ill. (May 1, 2024) – Fresh off winning the program's ninth Big Ten Conference title, the Northwestern University men's golf team will compete in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, it was announced Wednesday. The 'Cats will be the No. 5 seed at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Director of Golf and Player Development Pat Goss, head coach David Inglis, and assistant coach Sam Chien led the Wildcats to their first Big Ten Championship since 2006 this past weekend, securing the league's automatic bid to regional action.
Northwestern caught fire at the end of the regular season, placing inside the top four in each of its last three events before leading wire-to-wire at the Big Ten Championships.
Individually, Daniel Svärd captured his second straight individual Big Ten crown. The Jarfalla, Sweden native finished atop the leaderboard on Sunday with a one-over-par 211 (68-75-68), his fourth top-five finish of the year. Svärd was joined on the All-Championship Team by James Imai, who took third with a five-over-par 215 (68-74-73).
Northwestern collected an impressive haul when the Big Ten announced its postseason awards on Tuesday. Inglis was unanimously voted Big Ten Coach of the Year, while both Svärd and Ethan Tseng collected First Team All-Big Ten honors. Imai and Cameron Adam earned Second Team All-Big Ten accolades.
Six 54-hole NCAA Regional tournaments will be conducted May 13-15. The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Team and individual titles will be contested May 24-29 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
