EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern baseball fell to UIC, 18-5 (7 innings) in a midweek contest on Tuesday, April 9 at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.
UIC (20-10) started the game off on the right foot, putting up five runs in the first inning.
Northwestern (10-19) responded with, scoring a pair on a two-run home run by Jackson Freeman, his sixth of the season.
The Flames added six in the second to take an 11-2 lead before a Freeman RBI single gave him his third RBI of the day, his eighth multi-RBI game of the season.
UIC added another run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, extending its lead to 12-3, before Bennett Markinson hit his third home run of the 2024 campaign, a solo shot to center field.
UIC scored six runs in the sixth, taking an 18-4 lead before Preston Knott hit a solo home run to center, his fourth of the season and third in the past three games.
Vincent Gohlke (1-0) earned the win for UIC, surrendering one run on three hits in 3.0 innings pitched.
Amar Tsengeg (1-2) was credited with the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 0.1 innings pitched.
Northwestern resumes Big Ten play with a three-game series against Maryland this weekend at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m. CT, with Saturday and Sunday scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
