Shusharina Named Unanimous All-Big Ten

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior Maria Shusharina was unanimously selected to the 2024 All-Big Ten team following her standout season, the conference announced Wednesday. It is the fourth All-Conference selection of Shusharina's career.

Shusharina went 15-7 in singles play her senior season, including a dominant 8-2 record against conference opponents and a 10-5 record at the #1 spot. The run included a nine-match unbeaten streak that ran from March 1 to April 14 and included a victory over then-No. 122 Daianne Hayashida. In doubles action, Shusharina and partner Britany Lau compiled a nearly-perfect 15-1 record, including a 7-1 mark in Big Ten play.

Following a 4-0 performance against Purdue and Indiana two weeks ago, Shusharina earned the first Big Ten Player of the Week selection on April 17.

With her fourth straight All-Conference nod, Shusharina becomes the eighth Wildcat since 1984 to be named to the team in each of her years at Northwestern. The last athlete to achieve the honor was Erin Larner, who earned distinction every season from 2015 to 2018.

Also among postseason award winners was junior Kiley Rabjohns, who earned the Sportsmanship Award for the second straight season.

After finishing third in the regular season conference standings, Northwestern women's tennis earned a double-bye for the Big Ten Tournament and will begin postseason play on Friday in Ann Arbor. Their match will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT against either No. 14 Indiana, No. 11 Nebraska or No. 6 Maryland.
