EVANSTON, Ill. (April 3, 2024) – Coming off the top individual finish of her young career, Northwestern University first-year Ashley Yun (West Covina, Calif./Walnut) has been named the Big Ten Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday. She in the third Wildcat to bring home the league's top weekly honor this season, joining Lauryn Nguyen, a two-time selection, and Jennifer Cai.
Yun paced the attack as Northwestern took home the team title at the PING/ASU Invitational last week in Phoenix, Ariz. The West Covina, Calif. product started fast, posting a career-low tying four-under-par 68 during opening-round play. Following a one-over-par 73 in the event's second round, Yun capped off her stay at the par-72, 6,570-yard Papago Golf Course with a final-round three-under-par 69 to cement a third-place finish with a 54-hole season-low six-under-par 210 (68-73-69).
Following the completion of play, Yun was recognized as the Ann Votik Award winner, which recognizes the top freshman on the individual leaderboard.
Spurred on by Yun's efforts, Northwestern finished atop the team leaderboard at the event, besting a field that featured seven of the nation's top 15 teams in the latest Mizuno Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Coaches Poll. The Wildcats now have six top-three finishes as a team this season.
Northwestern closes out the regular season portion of its 2023-24 schedule next week, April 8-10, at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif.
