Wildcats Drop Game Three 8-7 to Nebraska in Extras

EVANSTON, Ill. – In a seesaw 10-inning affair, Nebraska came away with an 8-7 win over Northwestern to complete the series sweep over the Wildcats on Sunday at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

Nebraska (20-5, 3-0 Big Ten) took an early lead, using an RBI double to get on the board in the top of the first before leaving the bases loaded. Northwestern (10-15, 0-3 Big Ten) responded with a two-run home run by Jackson Freeman to grab a 2-1 lead.

The Huskers took a commanding 6-2 lead with five runs in the top of the fourth inning. NU halved the lead on a two-run home run by Owen McElfatrick in the bottom of the sixth, his fourth homer of the season, making it a 6-4 ballgame. 

In the bottom of the eighth, the Wildcats retook the lead on a three-run blast to right field by Freeman, his second of the game to put Northwestern up 7-6.

Nebraska rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to force extra innings. The Huskers took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning and closed the game out in the bottom half of the inning.

Garrett Shearer (1-5) was credited with the loss, surrendering one earned run on three hits, striking out a pair in 2.0 innings pitched.

Kyle Perry (1-0) earned the win, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out three.
Northwestern returns to action on Wednesday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. CT against Western Michigan at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park on B1G+.
