EVANSTON, Ill. - Despite a collection of tightly contested match-ups, Northwestern men's tennis dropped a 4-0 match to Oregon at home on Friday.
The 'Cats (1-5) picked up the first win of the day at #1 doubles, with Gleb Blekher and Felix Nordby taking their first victory of the season as a duo. Oregon came out on top of the next two, however, snagging the doubles point to put them up 1-0.
In singles action, Oregon won the #1 and #2 positions in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-4. Three of four remaining matches were split through the first two, however, sending each to a third set.
At the #3 and #6 positions respectively, Saiprakash Goli and Chad Miller won their first sets 7-5. Goli took his match to a third set after falling just short in a second set tiebreak, 7-6 (7-4), while Miller knotted his second set up at six apiece. Both matches went unfinished. At #5 singles, Greyson Casey dropped his first set 6-4 before winning the second, 6-3, and taking the third to a tiebreak that would go unfinished.
In the end, the deciding match was at the #4 position. Felix Nordby pulled even with Oregon's Mathew Burton with a 7-5 equalizer in set two, but ultimately fell 6-4 in the third set to give the Ducks a 4-0 victory.
Northwestern will continue their homestand with a doubleheader on Sunday. They'll face off with No. 8 Duke at noon before finishing their day with a 6 p.m. matchup with UIC.
