'Cats Drop Close Match at No. 23 Georgia Tech

Atlanta, Ga.-- Northwestern women's tennis dropped a close one on Sunday, 4-3, to No. 23 Georgia Tech on the road.

The 'Cats started off the day strong, winning the doubles point behind strong performances in the #2 and #3 matches. Sydney Pratt and Christina Hand dismantled their opponents 6-1, while Maria Shusharina and Britany Lau one-upped them by not allowing their Georgia Tech opponents to win a game.

In the singles matches, things quickly evened out. Hand and Jennifer Riester dropped their matches on the 3 and 5 lines respectively, sandwiched around a decisive 6-3, 6-3 win for Pratt in the #6 match to bring the score to 2-2.

In the latter half of the finishers, Shusharina fell in the #1 match but #2 Justine Leong took down her opponent by a score of 6-4, 6-2. The final match to finish was the #4 match, featuring Kylie Rabjohns for NU. She sent the first set to a tiebreak but dropped it 7-5 and couldn't force a third set.

With the 4-3 win, Georgia Tech moves to 3-3 on the year while Northwestern drops to 4-2.

Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. CT.
