'Cats Sweep Doubleheader Against Butler, EMU

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's tennis moved to 3-0 on the season with a pair of sweeps in a doubleheader on Saturday at Combe Tennis Center. The 'Cats dispatched both Butler and Eastern Michigan in perfect 7-0 victories.

In the morning match, the duo of Britany Lau and Neena Feldman took a 6-1 victory, while Justine Leong and Elisa Van Meeteren won their match 6-3 to secure the doubles point for Northwestern.

When it came to singles, the 'Cats didn't drop a single set. Christina Hand, Sydney Pratt and Jennifer Riester all notched their second singles victories of the season and Britany Lau picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5 in her first singles action of the season.

One victory already in hand, Northwestern also secured the doubles point against Eastern Michigan in the nightcap. Leong and Van Meeteren finished a 6-2 victory to move to 2-0 on the day as a pair and Hand combined with Feldman to account for the second half of the victory, beating their opponents 6-3.

In singles action against the Eagles, Lau finished a 6-2, 6-1 victory, followed by Maria Shusharina, who picked up her second victory of the day at #1. Pratt kept her perfect record intact with a 6-2, 6-3 victory of her own before Feldman clinched the second 'Cats win of the day at #6. Leong (6-1, 6-3) and Hand (6-3, 6-2) rounded out another perfect 7-0 sweep before the night concluded.

Next up for the 'Cats is ITA Kickoff Weekend, where they'll take on Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. Following that match, scheduled for Jan. 27 at noon, they'll move on to either TCU or Rice the following day at noon.
