Sabreists Power No. 5 ‘Cats At Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. (January 16, 2024) – Paced by a team-best six individual victories from first-year Alex Chen, No. 5 Northwestern fencing's sabre squad led the way as the Wildcats opened 2024 at the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Mass. this past Sunday.
 
Following a 21-6 setback to No. 10 Cornell to begin competition inside the Gantcher Center, the pairing of Chen and Levi Hoogendoorn each posted unblemished 3-0 marks to help guide the Wildcats' sabre team to a 7-2 triumph as part of a narrow 14-13 defeat to Wellesley.
 
In the event finale against the host Jumbos, Northwestern was victorious across all three weapons in a 21-6 triumph.  Chen and Sky Miller each tallied two wins, while Sumin Liu went a perfect 3-0 as part of a 7-2 victory for the sabreists.  The Wildcat eppeists stormed to an 8-1 victory, highlighted by undefeated efforts from Kaylin Nguyen and Christina Liu.  In the foil, Yejine Lee put up a 3-0 mark of her own as part of a 6-3 win.
