BOCA RATON, Fla. - Northwestern women's tennis opened their dual season in dramatic fashion on Monday in Florida, picking up a 4-3 win over Florida Atlantic on Kiley Rabjohns' clutch win at #4 Singles.
The Owls got out to the first advantage in the match, picking up the doubles point with 6-3 and 6-4 victories.
In singles action, Christina Hand got things started with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to even the score at one apiece. Jennifer Riester added another point for the 'Cats with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory of her own, and Sydney Pratt wrapped up a 6-2, 6-3 win to account for Northwestern's third point of the day.
With things all knotted up at three, the match came down to the #4 Singles court, where Kiley Rabjohns competed in a pair of closely contested sets. After taking the first set 7-6, she closed out with another 7-6 victory over FAU's Lexi Silna to secure a 4-3 match victory for Northwestern.
At 1-0, the 'Cats will return home to Combe Tennis Center this weekend, where they'll prepare to host Butler and Eastern Michigan in a Saturday doubleheader. First serve against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 10 a.m., then Northwestern will return to action at 4 p.m. against the Eagles.
