ORLANDO, Fla. (October 31, 2023) – Sky Miller and Karina Vasile both earned top-30 finishes as Northwestern fencing competed at USA Fencing's October North American Cup (NAC) event over the weekend in Orlando, Fla.
Coming off a runner-up finish in her first action of 2023-24 at the Penn State Open, Miller impressed in the Division I women's sabre, finishing 5-1 in pool action en route to being seeded 26th in the tableau. The Durham, N.C. native picked up a pair of victories in knockout action en route to a 23rd-place finish. Megumi Oishi also turned in a strong showing in the event, checking in 32nd overall.
Vasile led the charge in the Division I women's foil, placing 28th. After splitting six pool bouts, the Bucharest, Romania native product scored two wins in the tableau, highlighted by an upset of ninth-seeded Mikayla Chusid, 15-13.
Anna Damratoski (64th) and Ava Wade-Currie (68th) paced the 'Cats in the Division I women's epee, while Sumin Liu came out on top in her first two tableau matches to secure 25th in the Division II women's sabre.
