Ohio State Overwhelms Northwestern, 3-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio (October 25, 2023) - Northwestern was held to just a .091 (28-19-99) hitting percentage as it fell to host Ohio State (8-12, 5-6 B1G) by a 13-25, 12-25, 13-25 final this evening inside the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.  Tonight's result sees the Wildcats fall to 10-11 overall (4-7 B1G).


How It Happened
SET 1 | Averie Hernandez connected on her first of four kills in the first set to get Northwestern on the board and cut Ohio State's early lead to 2-1.  A Drew Wright service ace put the 'Cats back on level terms, 3-3, but Ohio State responded with the next five points, opening up a 9-4 lead and prompting a Northwestern timeout.  Leilani Dodson ripped her second kill of the night to trim the gap to 9-5, but Northwestern would get no closer as Ohio State cruised to a 25-13 win.

SET 2 | Maddy Chinn notched her second kill early on in set two as Ohio State quickly took control, racing out to a 6-1 lead as it forced another Northwestern timeout.  Kathryn Randorf drilled an attempt off the block to trim the gap to 11-5.  The hosts responded with five straight points, building a 16-5 lead on the way to a 25-12 victory in set two.

SET 3 | Randorf hammered another attempt of the Buckeye block in the opening stages of set three to chip the Ohio State lead to 4-3.  Following an attack error from the hosts that evened the score up at 4-4, Ohio State took off on a 4-0 tear, building an 8-4 lead.  Kills on back-to-back swings by Randorf cut the Buckeyes' lead in half, 8-6, but Ohio State countered with the next six points, stretching the gap to 14-6.  Ohio State would go on post a 25-13 win to close out the match in three sets.
