12-Match Unbeaten Streak Snapped at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 12 Northwestern had its 12-match season-opening unbeaten streak snapped in a 2-1 loss at Penn State on Friday.

The Wildcats fall to 9-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in Big Ten play with the defeat and are tied for first place in the conference with the Nittany Lions.

How it Happened

Northwestern jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute when Justin Weiss slotted home his seventh goal of the season, assisted by Christopher Thaggard and Jayvin Van Deventer.

The Nittany Lions equalized on a goal from Femi Awodesu in the 62nd minute.

PSU took a 2-1 lead on Peter Mangione's goal in the 73rd minute, holding the lead for the remainder of the contest.
