IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 2 Northwestern field hockey (12-1, 5-0 B1G) picked up their biggest win of the season on Friday, defeating No. 3 Iowa (10-1, 2-2 B1G)  2-0 on the road in Iowa City.

For the second weekend in a row, senior Lauren Wadas came up big in the clutch. Early in the fourth quarter, with the 'Cats up 1-0, Wadas doubled their lead with an unassisted score - her second goal of the season.

First year Ilse Tromp was responsible for Northwestern's first goal, converting a penalty corner to break a scoreless tie in the third quarter. It was Tromp's third goal of the season and her second in the last three games.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats' defense continued to impress. The backfield limited the Hawkeyes to just one shot through the first three quarters and the 'Cats gave up just one penalty corner, both of which were season lows for Iowa. When the Hawkeyes did get shots off in the fourth quarter, Annabel Skubisz racked up four saves to keep them off the board. The effort preserved the shutout for the Wildcats, who have now shut out four straight opponents for the second time this season.

Northwestern will recharge this week before returning to action next Sunday in Evanston, when they'll host Ohio on senior day. Game action is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT after a pregame ceremony honoring the class of 2024.
