Wadas Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - After scoring the game-winner against No. 15 Michigan on Sunday, Lauren Wadas was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Wadas, a senior, collected her first goal of the season with less than six minutes left in regulation on Sunday. Despite Northwestern dominating possession, the Wolverines' defense held the 'Cats out of the net for three straight quarters until Wadas broke through on Northwestern's 14th penalty corner of the game.

The midfielder has anchored a Northwestern offense that ranks tenth in the nation with 2.92 goals per game. One of four captains, she has helped lead the Wildcats to eleven straight wins, their longest streak since 1990.

This week's honor is Wadas' second Offensive Player of the Week award and the third Big Ten weekly award of her career. She was previously named Offensive Player of the Week on October 24 of last season and Freshman of the Week on March 29, 2021, during the pandemic-delayed 2020 season.
