Wildcats Win Third Straight With Shutout of Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - No. 3 Northwestern notched their third straight victory on the road on Tuesday as they took down Vermont 2-0.

After both defenses started strong, the 'Cats' offense broke through in the 11th minute. Peyton Halsey scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Olivia Bent-Cole - the first year's first as a Wildcat - to make it 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter also began as a defensive battle, with both goalkeepers notching a pair of saves each in the first eleven minutes of the period. Maja Zivojnovic converted for the 'Cats near the end of the quarter, however, using assists from Halsey and Alia Marshall to make it a 2-0 'Cats advantage.

From there, both defenses again prevailed. Neither side got past the keeper in the second half, and the 'Cats held out for their third straight victory. Fresh off Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, Annabel Skubisz completed her second shutout in her last three games - her 12th as a Wildcat.

Northwestern will conclude its road trip this weekend with a pair of games in Maine, starting with a matchup against the hosts on Friday, followed by a neutral site battle with UMass on Saturday.
