EVANSTON, Ill. - Annabel Skubisz was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Monday. The honor comes after Skubisz logged shutouts against all three of Northwestern's opponents.
The senior goalkeeper has manned the net for all six of the Wildcats' contests so far this season and has allowed only three goals in nearly 370 minutes of play. Both her 0.49 goals against average and her .864 save percentage rank first in the NCAA.
The streak of three shutouts is the second of Skubisz' career after she shut out Duke, Boston College and Liberty last September. It also ties for the longest streak of consecutive shutouts by a Northwestern field hockey team since 1993. Dating back to the second quarter at Duke, Skubisz and the Northwestern defense have not allowed a goal in 15 consecutive quarters.
This week's honor is Skubisz' fourth as a Wildcat and her second this season. Her previous honors came on November 1, 2021, and September 6, 2022.
