EVANSTON, Ill. (September 11, 2023) – Northwestern junior libero/defensive specialist Ellee Stinson (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Stinson, who is receiving the first weekly accolade of her career, is the first Wildcat to take home the Big Ten's top weekly defensive honor since Megan Miller on October 3, 2022.
Stinson was as reliable as ever for the 'Cats last week, averaging 4.23 digs per set across four matches. The Yorktown, Ind. native also tallied eight assists (0.62 a/s) and seven service aces (0.54 sa/s).
After racking up 16 digs in last Monday's Labor Day matchup at Milwaukee, Stinson was rock solid as Northwestern rolled to three consecutive sweeps over the weekend on the East Coast. She put up 10-dig showings against both Northern Colorado and Northeastern, adding a career-high tying three service aces in Friday's win over the Bears. Stinson put up her top defensive showing of the week on Sunday against Fairfield, piling up 19 digs in a dominant 3-0 victory.
Currently averaging 4.50 digs per set on the year, Stinson currently ranks third in the Big Ten in the category and is tied for 66th overall nationally.
Northwestern lifts the lid on a season-long five-match homestand this week by closing non-conference play against UIC (September 13) and Yale (September 15).
