How It Happened
SET 1 | Leilani Dodson tallied a pair of early kills, the second of which staked the 'Cats to a 5-3 edge. Ellie Husemann and Kathryn Randorf teamed up on the block to stretch the margin to three, 9-6. A 4-1 push that included two kills apiece from Maddy Chinn and Dodson made it 15-10 in favor of Northwestern. After seeing Northeastern close back within four, 18-14, two Husemann kills provided the bookends to a set-ending 7-1 charge as the 'Cats notched a 25-15 win.
SET 2 | Northwestern hit the gas out of the gate in set two, going on an 11-0 tear that included three kills from Dodson to race out in front, 14-4. Randorf added three kills of her own across the back half of the frame as the Wildcats were never threatened en route to victory, 25-13.
SET 3 | The Wildcats showed no signs of letting up in the third set, taking a 4-2 lead on a block from Chinn and Dodson. Northeastern looked to hang around, getting back within one, 7-6, following a Northwestern block error, but the 'Cats effectively put the match away with an 8-0 surge, fueled by a trio of Randorf kills, to take command, 14-6. As was the case to start the day, another Husemann kill put the exclamation point on the frame, 25-14.
