Richter's Lone Goal Made the Difference in Chicago Cup Opener

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wildcats started their 2023 Chicago Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over UIC.

First-year, Henri Richter, scored in the first half off a corner kick to take the lead over the Flames. The lone goal of the match decided the result in favor of the Cats'.

From the opening whistle, the Wildcats brought high energy and an attack-minded game plan to the match. After a series of shots, the Cats' earned a corner kick that fell to sophomore, Paul Son, who picked out a Henri Richter for a tap in.

The second half began with a more aggressive approach by the visiting team but thanks to some resolute defending by the Northwestern backline and graduate goalkeeper, Jackson Weyman, the Cats' secured a convincing 1-0 win to take them top of the 2023 Chicago Cup standings.
