Positively Dr. Gragg - January 2023

Wildcats,

As a new calendar year begins, I am filled with a sense of hope and possibility; and excited for the many opportunities ahead for Northwestern Athletics and Recreation.

Though we are in the midst of a busy academic and athletic year, which has been in full swing since late summer, I encourage each of you to take full advantage of the New Year to set personal and professional goals for yourselves and assess those you established through our Professional Development process during the fall. This is a time for growth and development. By setting clear goals that align with the pillars of R.I.S.E. Northwestern: A Strategic Plan for Excellence, you can help ensure that you are making the most of the opportunities that come your way and contributing to the success of our community.

One thing that particularly inspires me as we start 2023 is the upcoming celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, an annual occasion for us to reflect on the progress that has been made in the fight for civil rights, and to reaffirm our commitment to creating a more just and equitable society. It also is a time to remember the work that still needs to be done, and to rededicate ourselves to the broad ideals of equality and justice that Dr. King stood for, something that is particularly poignant as our entire staff reflects this month on the first two modules of our department-wide Return On Inclusion curriculum.

Finally, I want to express my appreciation for all the hard work and dedication that each and every one of you brings to your role each day. As Dr. King said, "life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" Your commitment to our Wildcats and our success in the classroom, in the community, and in competition is what moves us forward. I am amazed to think of all we can accomplish together in the year ahead.

Positively,
Dr. Gragg
