EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will conclude their homestand and kick off their 2023 on Monday as they take on Michigan State at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off between the Wildcats and the Spartans is set for 7 p.m.
Northwestern (6-6, 0-2) will host their second straight Big Ten opponent after falling to No. 3 Ohio State on Wednesday. They take an 0-2 conference record into Monday's matchup, with both losses having come against ranked opponents.
The 'Cats have gotten contributions from several different players so far this season, and Jillian Brown has been the most recent to excel in Big Ten play. Brown has been the 'Cats' leading scorer in both of their conference matchups so far, dropping 13 against Ohio State after scoring 17 in Michigan last month. She leads the current roster in points per game against Big Ten opponents, with an 8.8 average.
Courtney Shaw also made an impact against the Buckeyes, grabbing 11 rebounds and scoring 12 points for her first double-double in over a month. After seeing limited action for most of December due to an injury, Shaw played 24 minutes on Wednesday, which was the third highest total by a Wildcat in the game. Her ten rebounds in the first half alone are the most by a Northwestern player in a half so far this season.
The 'Cats will host a Michigan State squad (9-5, 1-2) fresh off an upset victory over No. 4 Indiana. The Spartans knocked off the Hoosiers at home on Thursday, extending their winning streak to three straight games. They'll head into Evanston with a 1-1 road record so far, including a loss in their only Big Ten game away from East Lansing.
After Monday's game, the 'Cats will hit the road to face off with Illinois in Champagne on Thursday. Tip off between the two teams is set for 8 p.m.
