Men’s Soccer Falls at Rutgers to Open Big Ten Play

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Northwestern fell 4-2 on the road against Rutgers Saturday (Sept. 17) at Yurcak Field.

The loss dropped Northwestern's record to 1-4-2 overall and 0-1-0 in Big Ten action.

How it Happened

Rutgers opened the scoring when Cole Cruthers scored in the first minute, assisted by Jason Bouregy.

The Wildcats evened the match on a goal from Ethan Dudley -- his first goal of the season -- in the 19th minute, assisted by Andrew Stevens and Collin McCamy.

Rutgers went up 2-1 on Jackson Temple's 26th-minute goal.

The Scarlet Knights went up 3-1 with a 49th-minute goal from Bouregy, assisted by Hugo Le Guennec.

Rutgers added to its advantage to make it a 4-1 game on Hugo Le Guennec's goal in the 64th minute, assisted by Ola Maeland.

The Wildcats narrowed the score to 4-2 thanks to a 78th-minute goal from Eric Smits, his first goal of the season. Stevens and Vicente Castro assisted the goal.
